Hiragana: learn all 46 basic characters with romaji
At the start, romaji helps you attach a sound to an unfamiliar symbol. Keep it visible while the kana are new, but deliberately remove it from later passes so that recognition becomes direct.

Use the romanisation as a scaffold
Study in small rows, read once with the support, then cover it and repeat. The goal is not to become fast at reading romaji; it is to stop needing romaji.
Learning path: base hiragana → voiced/combined sounds → katakana → short kana sentences → kanji with furigana → gradually more natural reading.
