Der, die or das: learn the noun with its article

German nouns have grammatical gender. Instead of memorising Tisch, learn der Tisch; instead of Tür, learn die Tür.

Useful tendencies

Many nouns ending in -ung, -heit, -keit are feminine. Diminutives in -chen are neuter. But patterns help; they do not replace learning the article.
