Present Simple vs Present Continuous: cómo distinguirlos
El Present Simple describe hábitos, rutinas y hechos generales. El Present Continuous describe sobre todo acciones en progreso ahora o situaciones temporales.
Present Simple: lo habitual
I work every day.
She studies English on Mondays.
Water boils at 100°C.
She studies English on Mondays.
Water boils at 100°C.
Con he, she, it, el verbo suele añadir -s: she works.
Present Continuous: lo que está ocurriendo
I am working right now.
She is studying at the moment.
We are staying with friends this week.
She is studying at the moment.
We are staying with friends this week.
La estructura es am/is/are + verbo-ing.
Compara el contexto
He works from home. → es su rutina.
He is working from home today. → situación de hoy.
He is working from home today. → situación de hoy.
Palabras que orientan
Always, usually, every day aparecen mucho con Present Simple. Now, right now, at the moment aparecen mucho con Present Continuous. Son pistas, no reglas automáticas.
Verbos que normalmente no van en continuo
Verbos de estado como know, like, believe, understand suelen utilizarse en simple: I know the answer, no normalmente I am knowing.
