Hiragana: all 46 basic characters with romaji
Use romaji to connect each new symbol to its sound, but treat it as a temporary scaffold. Your long-term target is to look at a kana and hear the sound without converting it through the Latin alphabet.

Make the support disappear gradually
Read five kana with romaji visible, cover the romanization, then read the same five again. As soon as recognition becomes stable, spend more time on the kana-only pass.
Progression: 46 hiragana → voiced/combined sounds → katakana → short kana sentences → kanji with furigana → increasingly natural reading.
